Leigh Walk-In Centre
You can see an experienced nurse for treatment of minor injuries and illnesses, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, 07:00 to 21:00 at Leigh Walk-In Centre, Leigh Infirmary, The Avenue, Wigan. Alternatively you can telephone them on 01942 264000.
The centre offers treatment for minor illnesses including sore throats, infections/rashes, viral infections, minor burns/wounds, fractures, sprains and X-rays of upper/lower limbs, eye problems, minor head injuries etc. You do not need an appointment.
Wigan GP Alliance
In July 2015 Wigan GP Access Alliance launched a new service to increase patient access to GPs weekday evenings and weekends. Patients will be seen at designated ‘hubs’ in the borough. Currently there are 5 HUB sites (Shevington, Pemberton, Atherton, Tyldesley & Ashton) with more HUBs expected to open in the near future.
Patient can call 01942 482848 to book a GP appointment at one of the HUBs. Appointments will be available:
18:30 to 20:00 Mon to Fri & 10:00 to 16:00 Sat/Sun/bank holidays
Practice Nurse Appointments now available!
The Wigan GP Extended Hours now offer appointments with Nurses for a variety of services and reviews between 18:30 – 20:00 weekdays and 10:00 – 16:00 Saturdays.
The appointments are for:
- Cervical Smears
- Contraceptive pill checks – (not the depo provera injection)
Long Term Condition reviews:
- COPD reviews
- Asthma reviews
- Diabetes reviews – (annual bloods need to be done a few days before the review date)
- Peripheral Arterial Disease reviews
- Ischaemic Heart Disease reviews – (annual bloods need to be done a few days before the review date)
- Stroke reviews
- Atrial Fibrillation reviews
- Heart Failure reviews
