Anti – Coagulation Clinic

If you are on Warfarin, you will understand the importance of regular monitoring of your blood.
We run a clinic on a Tuesday afternoon to monitor this. The clinic is run by Mrs Pam Myers and supervised by Dr Chris Lord.

Travel Health & Holiday Vaccinations

We offer a full programme of travel vaccinations and holiday health advice. We are also a certified site for Yellow Fever Vaccinations.

Cervical Smears

Cervical smears are extremely important for all women between the ages of 25-65 years.
The regular uptake of cervical smears can dramatically reduce your chances of developing cervical cancer.

The test is simple and the appointment lasts for about 15 minutes.

All our practice nurses are fully trained in taking smears and results are carefully monitored.

For more information on cervical smears follow this link to the NHS cervical screening website

Minor Operations

Many minor operations for the removal of lumps and bumps can be carried out within the practice, usually by Dr Marwick. You will be referred to him by the doctor you see.

Contraception

We offer a full range of contraceptive services within the practice. This includes general advice, and prescribing the pill . Please discuss this with your doctor or nurse.

Maternity Services

Our maternity services within the practice are mainly undertaken by our team of very experienced midwives, based at Wigan hospital. The midwives provide full antenatal cover with weekly clinics at the surgery. In-patient maternity care is usually provided at Wigan Infirmary.

Post natal care is provided at home by the same team of midwives who looked after you during your pregnancy, thus ensuring good continuity of care throughout the ante-natal and post-natal period.

If you need advice before trying for pregnancy, please make an appointment to discuss this with one of the doctors. They may arrange some blood tests and give advice on what to do and what to avoid.

If you discover you are pregnant, please arrange to see one of the doctors, who will arrange for you to see the midwives within a few weeks, for an explanation of the way maternity services will affect you and to arrange some blood tests and a scan. The midwives will then arrange to follow you through pregnancy as needed.

If you have any problems that you are worried about or any other illnesses whilst you are pregnant, please see your doctor.

Post natal checks are offered at the surgery for you and your baby at 6 weeks.
